Jeremy Denk

Pianist Jeremy Denk, master of a wide-ranging repertoire of solo and chamber music, opens his season with three New York performances. He participates in Carnegie Hall’s Leonard Bernstein festival, playing Arias and Barcarolles with Susan Graham and Rod Gilfry; performs a Zankel Hall recital; and plays Chopin Ballades with Rob Kapilow at Lincoln Center.

Mr. Denk has played Mozart with The Philadelphia Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony; Rachmaninoff with the Chicago Symphony; Brahms with London’s Philharmonia; Tobias Picker with the Moscow Philharmonic; and Schumann with the Juilliard Orchestra. He also frequently plays Messiaen, Ligeti, Lutosławski, Kirchner, and Ives, and maintains working relationships with several living composers.

A double-degree graduate of Oberlin College and Conservatory in chemistry and piano, Mr. Denk also earned a master’s degree at Juilliard. He has programmed Ives’s “Concord” Sonata with Beethoven’s final sonata and a medley of Bach chorales and chorale-preludes, American rags, and Stephen Foster ballads. He has performed all six of Bach’s keyboard partitas and has appeared at all the major chamber music festivals.

Mr. Denk collaborates with the Borromeo, Brentano, Mirò, St. Lawrence, Shanghai, and Vermeer quartets. He first performed with violinist Joshua Bell at Spoleto in 2004 and has played numerous recital tours with him since then.

Mr. Denk also writes a popular blog, “Think Denk” (jeremydenk.net/blog).
